Animal cruelty encompasses behavior harmful to animals ranging from neglect to physical abuse and malicious killing. Most cruelty investigations often reveal unintentional neglect, rather than intentional abuse. Such situations can be resolved through education. Intentional cruelty or abuse is knowingly depriving an animal of food, water, shelter or veterinary care. Intention abuse is maliciously torturing, maiming, mutilating, or killing of an animal.
