Field Services

Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) provides animal-related services to the citizens of Ventura County. These services may include catching stray animals, investigating animal cruelty/neglect, licensing services, kennel inspections, rabies suppression and more.

Our field officers are on duty 24 hours-per-day, 365 days-a-year. Should you need the assistance of an officer in the late evening or very early morning, call the shelter's normal number, 805-388-4341 or 888-223-PETS (7387) and proceed through the voicemail menu options and select "OPTION 4" to contact the animal control officer on-duty.

As of Wednesday, July 15th 2015, Quarantines and Area Checks will be performed by Oxnard and Moorpark Animal Control Officers. Effective immediately, VCAS field staff will no longer be servicing quarantine investigations within the City limits of Moorpark and Oxnard. VCAS will retain record-keeping (hard copy and database) for both cities.

Field Servcies not provided by Ventura County Animal Services:
1) Wildlife - Unless sick or injured
2) Cats (domestic) - Unless sick or injured
3) Marine Mammals
4) Deceased Animals on the Freeway/Highway
5) Quarantine of animals who have bit other animals

General Services provided by VCAS Field Officers:
1) Quarantine of animals who have bit someone. 
2) Picking up stray dogs.
3) Reunite lost pets with their owners (see Ticket Home)
4) Door to door license canvasing (see Licensing)
5) Deceased animal pick-up (excluding Freeways)

Patrolling contracted cities: Camarillo, Fillmore, Ojai, Port Hueneme, Simi Valley, Ventura and all Unincorporated areas of Ventura County.
