Working Whiskers Program (Formerly "Barn Cat" Program)

Working Whiskers Banner

Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) cares for feral (or wild) cats who would love to be put to work hunting rodents on your property. These cats are not suitable to be house-pets but would flourish in an open area such as a barn, horse stable, warehouse, garage, garden shed or other appropriate indoor/outdoor location.

This Working Whiskers program (formerly the "Barn Cat" Program) provides cats who are spayed/neutered, microchipped, ear-tipped and vaccinated. You need only provide daily food and water, protection from the elements and long-term vet care. After a short period of secure confinement to help with the transition from a shelter environment to your property, the cat(s) should be acclimated to their new surroundings and can be released to roam free on your land.

In return for your care, these working cats will help keep rodents away from feed, grain and food storage areas. Not only will you enjoy watching these cats work, you will be providing them a much-needed home.

And, because these cats are already spayed or neutered, you won't have to worry about unwanted litters of kittens appearing!
